Transport For London Signage Projects:

• A.J Wells have been producing signage for TFLs DLR stations since the 1990s and completely re-signed 40 stations as part of the latest re-brand including platform extensions that were put in place for the 2012 summer Olympics.
• A.J Wells has designed, developed, manufactured and installed thousands of signs ranging from door plates to illuminated fascias and roundels for many of the new Crossrail, Elizabeth Line stations. For this project, the designers requested toughened glass, for which screenprinting was done on the reverse.
• A.J Wells & Sons were commissioned by Transport for London to create four giant illuminated Underground signs in the shape of the PlayStation buttons for the 2020 launch of the PlayStation 5.
• Other notable London Underground station signage includes Bank, Camden Town, Covent Garden, Picadilly Line etc.
• As part of the new London Overground scheme, A.J Wells worked closely with Transport For London on the external Super Graphic illuminated signage for new and refurbished train stations. The letters and roundels were designed, fabricated and hand-assembled in-house at A.J Wells using low energy LED technology.

Moving beyond London, AJWells have produced signage for stations across the country and internationally, including for RATP Paris Metro, Southern Rail, South Western Rail and more.

They are produced in vitreous enamel a traditional process that involves fusing glass particles to sheet metal by firing it at temperatures in excess of 800°C. The finish has a unique depth and vibrance and has been specified by rail operators for many years. The result is colourfast and weather-proof with exceptional durability, meaning colours, text and images will never fade. Enamel signs are ideal for indoor or outdoor and require very little maintenance.

AJ Wells & Sons Ltd was founded in 1972 and is a privately owned, family-controlled, British company. Based on the Isle of Wight the factory comprises of a Vitreous Enamelling Plant and a precision metal workshop featuring CNC controlled Press Brakes, Robotic Welders and a state of the art Laser Profiler.
