Vitreous Enamel Signage on Southern Railway is now 16 years old – A.J Wells
It’s now 16 years since A.J Wells & Sons Limited completed the entire site surveying, manufacture and installation of the new vitreous enamel signage for the Southern Railway network (142 stations in total).
The project was part of a total re-brand of the railway network previously known as SouthCentral. The signage included platform signage, directional signage and mapping panels right through to doorplate and safety signage. Vitreous enamel was specified throughout the scheme due to its durable, vandal resistant and non-fade qualities. 16 years later, the signs are virtually as good as new, having aged extremely well.
Southern Rail Heritage Stations
In addition, A.J Wells completed the site surveying, manufacture and installation of the new vitreous enamelled signage for the Isle of Wight heritage rail network (a total of 7 stations). Our colour specialist team reproduced the LSWR Urie Sage Green used between 1912–1924 for the standard passenger locomotive livery.
